To have and to hold

To have and to hold

We spoke to Michelle and Will Green who got married at the Hospitium on Saturday 30th March 2019, to find out the low down on their big day and what made it so special.

Why did you choose the Hospitium for your special day?

We knew before we even got engaged that we wanted to get married at the Hospitium after seeing it during walks around museum gardens.

We had lots of guests coming from outside of York so we wanted a venue that encapsulated everything we love about York (where we met and have always lived together) and was easy for people to get to via train. We booked the Hospitium as soon as we looked around it and didn’t even look at any other venues!

Tell us about the ceremony and reception décor…

It is such a beautiful venue we didn’t feel as though we needed too much additional decoration.

We created much of the decoration ourselves by filling old bottles and jam jars with tea lights and fairly lights, painting old crates and using these to pin photos of all of our guests to and making our table plan and stationary ourselves.

We went with a map theme for the seating plan and named our tables after places that we had visited together. On the tables we framed old-fashioned postcards to denote the table name.

The flowers (supplied by Dutch Nurseries florist) tied everything together.

Who can forget the food, tell us what you went for?

We had a three course sit down meal provide by Bradshaw’s caterers, Hospitium dedicated caterrers and all of our guests commented on how good it was. We had a 3 course sit down meal.

In the evening we had a buffet of bacon rolls and fish finger sandwiches!

Did you have a standout moment?

The whole day was incredible, but a particular standout moment was during the meal sitting together knowing that we were now married and watching all of our friends and family having a really good time. It felt so special to know that everyone was there at the Hospitium to celebrate with us.
